Her voice sounded like someone had taught a diamond to speak

Robust, sweet, and hard.

Lately I’ve been thinking about Joe Jonas’s and Sophie Turner’s divorce.

Joe’s PR team has fucked up big time. He’s been slowly leaking nasty stuff to the press about his former wife for weeks now, yet she’s the one who’s ended up on top. Why? The power of silence.

“Your enemies will defeat themselves before you get the chance to swing. Always let them bury themselves.”

The truth really doesn’t take much convincing. It’s just how human nature works. Silence is also communication. Your words are powerful, but silence is equally if not more powerful.

Silence makes them lose their minds.

You get the upper hand when you choose to stay silent (especially when dealing with a narcissist). Silence doesn’t mean that you don’t communicate, there are other ways to communicate, silence is just one of the means of communication, but the one I find it to be the most powerful. Saying less means that you’re in control. No response, means no room for misinterpretation, it signals that you control the narrative. Choosing when to speak makes your words more impactful, it also showcases your authority.

Talking too much gives people too much to work with. Over explaining can lead to inconsistencies, provides fodder for criticism or speculation. When you use someone else as your voice it loses all it’s power.

Joe’s PR team has been saying all kinds of stuff about his ex-wife trying to muddle her image, but because it didn’t come directly from him it takes all of this power away. His message gets profoundly weakened and there’s really no way for him to get back that power once he’s lost it.

But Sophie Turner walking hand in hand with THE Taylor Swift, his very one ex-girlfriend? That sends a message. And she didn’t even have to say a word.

This is especially helpful for people going through a messy breakup or divorce. Silence is your power, and when you do choose to speak, people will listen.
